The PV1D can be operated through the panel, but is also suitable for pre-installation through the PC. This SubApp application comes standard with the data of a large number of B&W speakers so the integration of the sub will be optimal. All kinds of parameters can be set: gain, the speaker sensitivity, cut-off frequency, phase, even the slope of the cross-over filter. The chosen parameters can then be saved in presets and can be accessed quickly through the panel. The PV1D knows four different equalizer settings so the lows can be reproduced according to your own preferences. The computer within the PV1D edits the incoming signal according to one of the chosen EQ settings and then ensures that the result falls within the mechanical standards of the set so, even with the lowest frequencies, the sub does not go into “overload” and the output would distort or the components would fail (for instance sling the driver from the voice coil at very low frequencies ). The result is that the sub under all circumstances can keep reproducing controlled ultra-low without any risk. Connecting to a domotica system through the RS232 port seems like child’s play. With this the PV1D of course is suitable in its reviewed role of base unit in the MT-60D package, but this sub is also very suitable for combining with every other brand of speakers. Of course I tried this too and I can really recommend the sub as unit to buy separately.
The whole radiates a super modern elegance and is available in matt black and ditto white. The metal casing has a beautiful finish. The satellites are small enough so they will find a place almost anywhere, which is not always obvious for a multi-channel system. The sub is just a showpiece in itself and deserves to be seen. No more subs the size of a coffee table that dominated your living room. Because I obviously could listen to this set only temporarily I did not mount the speakers on the wall, my consort would not have appreciated it, but I placed the fronts upon my current speaker stands. Both back speakers found a place on speaker supports. Considering the small base that was kind of precarious, but B&W itself has specific supports available so no problem. However, keep this in mind when budgeting.
